Back from the Break
Wow, I’m due for a much needed update… In fact, I’m past due. But now where do I even begin? Writing is a funny thing. I was writing 1-2 a week on this blog, but once you skip that even once, you fall off the wagon so to speak. It is hard getting back on that wagon now.
I’ve had a long, wonderful break and a lot has happened. I went to America for 3 weeks to visit family with Alexander. It was the best Christmas I’ve ever had. Honestly, it was probably better even than when I was a kid and actually believed in Santa Clause. Seeing my family and my tiny little hometown was so surreal at first, but not for long. Soon everything slipped back into a lovely familiarity.
Aside from the overwhelming joy of seeing my family and friends, I have to admit I had an awesome time driving again, eating out all the time, and shopping. Oh, how I did shop. When we flew over, we brought one full suitcase, one half packed suitcase, one empty bag, and one carry on. We left with 2 full carry ons and 3 full suitcases/bags… This shopaholic got her fix.
See, in Norway, everything is about 3x the cost of that in America. For every one time you dine out in Norway, you could do that 3 times in America! Needless to say, I get spoiled sometimes and I get huge shopping and dining out urges but, mostly, it’s too expensive. So in America I got to splurge!
Are you living away from home? When you go back to visit, what is your favorite thing to do? Eat? See?
I loved eating in also, as we were staying with my Grandma, who is the best cook ever! She’s taught me almost everything I know about cooking and baking. We even made a Norwegian dessert for Christmas called Sukkesstarte (success tart) successfully! It was delicious. My favorite food to much on was probably potato bread and grandma’s homemade dinners. It’s so funny how many little things you miss or forget about and how much you ‘have to have them’ once you can’t. They taste that much better when you do get them :)
The other big thing that happened was that… We got a puppy! Our dog, Ziggy, is a pug (mops) and petit branbacon mix. He is absolutely amazing, and we are having an awesome and challenging time getting him adjusted to us and our new home. We’re currently crate training, which is heartbreaking at night when he cries, but it is necessary for potty training, and having him be ok when he’s home alone.
We would, however, love to take any suggestions/tips from other dog owners if you have them :)
Well, I know this post was probably full of ‘meh’ quality, but I just had to write SOMETHING, just to get things going again. I find with this forum I’m still finding my voice, what to write about and discuss. Of course my life is not nearly exciting enough to share with the world, so I have to start actually having a point soon ;) especially since soon I’ll be writing my one-person show. Yikes!
Thanks for the patience with this post, and I look forward to your comments! <3
