Sinus infections really suck. Cake, however, does not.
Last week I got my first sinus infection. I’m still sick now after 7 days of medicine, decongestant, and vitamins. Being this sick truly sucks. On the bright side, it was Alexander’s birthday, and we have our one year anniversary to look forward to; that and being healthy… Hopefully.
So last Sunday, I wrote my blog post about the Toga Party at TITAN and I mentioned that I was very hungover. Turns out, I was getting sick. I woke up that night at around 1 AM with a fever and felt really awful. Alexander told me I had to stay home, and to that I said I would have to go to the doctor tomorrow to get it excused from school. I thought, though, that it was just a really bad hangover paired with a bad night’s sleep. I was very wrong.
Monday morning I woke up and couldn’t breathe through my nose. I could barely turn my head because my neck and throat muscles were so sore, and my throat itself was red with swollen glands. I was on my way to the doctor. After a long wait, a blood test, and a throat culture, they told me that yes I did in fact have a sinus infection. I had never had one before, only common colds so I didn’t really know what to expect, and thought I would be able to function within 24 hours with the penicillin prescription I was given. Unfortunately, that same night I was up again, with worse fevers that continued all throughout Tuesday.
By this point I was sure Wednesday I would be able to get up and go to school, even if I had to sit on the sidelines of some classes. Except that that morning was probably the worst one yet. I called my Rektor and asked him what he thought I should do, and he told me I should stay home and rest. I was getting so frustrated because I didn’t want to miss too much (we have a lot going on) especially right before Høstferie (fall holiday, which I’m on now). I started having a pity party moment and was crying to Alexander. It was one of those times when you’ve been sick for a long time, or puking after a long night of drinking where you can’t remember what it was like to be healthy and you don’t think you’ll ever feel normal again. But on the plus side, the crying really helped my blow my nose… So I guess it wasn’t all bad.
Thursday I woke up and told myself no matter what I was going to go to school. The crappy part was that at this point in the sickness my eyes were completely bloodshot and looked a lot like the zombie looking through the window in 28 DaysLater. “Oh well,” I thought, I was really looking forward to getting back to school and getting caught up. Friday was basically the same, and people were at least a little more comfortable with looking at me directly in the eyes…
Friday night/all of Saturday I took time to really feel better, and I did, it’s just that due to all the coughing, my voice was gone so I had to whisper most of the time. I took the chance to clean the whole apartment and “disinfect” everything with bleach, which made me feel better; and I got ready for Alexander’s birthday.
Sunday I woke up feeling better, voice still raspy, and started baking Alexander his cake. I was feeling more like myself now. We had a mellow day (we’re both sick, of course) with watching Predators (not bad!), eating cake, and opening presents. I bought him some sweaters since there’s holes in almost all of his old ones, spruced up his old Adidas, and made him a Binärpilot scrapbook which I think he really appreciated. It was a lot of fun putting it together for him.
So that brings us to today. I finally got a decent amount of sleep last night, but now that my body has had a taste, it wants more. Hence, I’ve been tired all day. I finally got to enjoy a cup of coffee and slowly but surely my voice is coming back, and with eye drops and cold packs the red is leaving my eyes. Yay! I’m almost done with my medicine and the light is now at the end of the tunnel. I’m starting to feel like i’ll be back to normal again someday soon; I hope I have enough health to really enjoy my anniversary (Thursday!) and the rest of my break :)
I hope everyone is doing well out there, and is healthy as can be! Take your vitamins! ;)
