24-Hour-Theater and Toga Party at TITAN
Getting up at 6 AM to preform a play by 7 PM and celebrating a job well done with togas, karaoke, korean food, friends, homemade cookies, and wine… Lots of wine.
This has been one of the busiest weekends I think I’ve ever had, and it all started with 24-Hour-Theater. This is a project put on at TITAN (The International Theater Academy Norway aka my school) that is optional to both 1st and 2nd year students. The idea is that writers and actors come in at 7 PM on Friday night to put their names and a random sentence they wrote into a raffle. Actors are assigned to writers, along with someone’s line which must be used as the first line in the writer’s show… Am I making any sense here?… I have to apologize if I’m not, I’m pretty hungover (but we’ll get to that later).
Ok so, I was an actor in this formula so I got to leave after I got assigned to a writer, but they stay behind and write all night until 7 in the morning, and that’s where I come in. The actors arrive and get their scripts and start rehearsing. We work with our directors to find out what we should wear, look like, and our blocking. I had a fantastic scene written by my friend Håvard which had two other (awesome) actors. The scene was Myself and my friend Amanda walking when suddenly we see a “thing” lying asleep and snoring loudly on the ground. This “thing” is a woman, representing Norway. We have no idea who or what it is. My character, Killer Queen, is reluctant to do anything with it and when it awakes and begins speaking Norwegian (Jibberish to us) I opt to leave it to die. My friend however, X-Girl, falls in love with it and we abandon each other due to this difference. I really hope to have high-quality video of this soon, and I will of course post it here first, but for now you can check out some not so high quality pictures (i.e. iPhone). The scene went so well, and we got a lot of laughs, too. I think Håvard was very happy with it as well, which is always good. I think the next time we do 24-Hour-Theater I may try and write but we’ll see.
So after our scenes were done (they were all fantastic, by the way) it was time to celebrate. The 2nd years and our teachers planned a toga party for after the show so we all had some alcohol, some kind of food to bring, and of course, our togas. I spruced mine up a bit with a zebra pattern belt and brought my best batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies (a recipe I created myself… it’s amazing.) I opted for white wine but should have known the hangover I would get….
My teacher who is originally from South Korea brought a ton of Korean food (I’d never tried it!) and it was amazing. I thought it was homemade but he told me he picked it up here in Oslo at a place called Mr. Tang… Totally going to have to get food there again… I got tipsy enough to sing some karaoke with my friends (Lucky with Lindy and Knowing Me, Knowing You with Amanda) and hopefully (or not so hopefully-depending on how you look at it) will have more pictures and video of that soon.
So all in all, everything was a success and it was a fantastic experience. It left me with a profound feeling of joy of where I am in my life. I attend an amazing school doing what I love… With talented teachers who I am confident will guide me in the right direction… I have made even more amazing friends who I cherish deeply and have way too much fun with… I live in a beautiful, exciting city where I am constantly learning new things; but most importantly, I have a husband who supports me in all my creative endeavors and is willing to order pizza on a Sunday when I am too “sick” to cook..
Life is good. <3 I hope everyone reading this is doing just as wonderful.
