Busy Week!

This last week has been a busy one. My first trip to Sweden, singing in the streets of Oslo, strawberry daiquiris and homemade lasagna, a brother’s engagement, frozen yogurt, and a Binaerpilot show.

Hi again! Wow, it seems like a long time since I’ve written something, but it’s only been a week. One very busy, awesome, week.

I should start by saying that all this week I’ve been trying to find a clear topic for my blog to revolve around; and since I’ve been in Oslo for over a year now, I suppose the “American Living in Norway” point would be kind of dry… But I have to share one of those moments this week. Monday was my first trip to Sweden, and definitely not my last. If you live in Norway, you know the meaning of this, but I’ll explain to everyone else just my point. As most of you know, Norway is insanely expensive. Luckily, about an hour and a half away is Sweden; where meat, candy, soda, cigarettes, and alcohol are infinitely cheaper. Me and four other girls from school (2 Norwegian, 1 Scottish, and 1 other American) decided it was time for a Sweden trip so we packed in my friend Karin’s car and hit the road.

About 2 hours later, we were in Sweden in a shopping mall, inside a candy store. A huge freaking candy store. I was packing things up, chocolate, licorice, some American candy, and soda. While I was picking everything out I was thinking “this is going to blow my budget completely, I won’t be able to afford anything at the real grocery store.” I made out with .75 kilos of candy, 24 cans of soda, and 3 other candy bars at a mere 230 kroners. TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY KRONERS. That is NOTHING. If I would have bought the same amount of things in Norway I would have paid double that, easily. So that’s when I fell in love with Swedish prices.

Then it was on the the grocery shopping. I knew I had to stock up on meat, because that’s the real money saver. I got 4 steaks, 2 lbs of ground beef, 1 lb of stir fry beef, .5 lb of Danish salami, and .25 lb of cooked turkey (for sandwiches). Then I had a look around the rest of the store and found Kraft Singles (!!), knock off Pop-Tarts, Macaroni and Cheese, DILL PICKLES (drool) Betty Crocker cake frosting, NUTELLA, miscellaneous snacks, and tons more but I had to refrain (well, really, I didn’t, because all that came out to less than 1000 kroner!!!)

Let me just say, before you judge me, that I am totally fine cooking and eating Norwegian products. You can find most of the things I bought in Sweden in Norway, but they’re much more expensive. So not only do I feel obligated to buy them when they’re so cheap, but sometimes I just see something and think to myself “I haven’t eaten this in a year so I HAVE TO HAVE IT.” Yeah, ok, not the best logic but it works out pretty well most of the time. I also have to reiterate how excited I was about these dill pickles… If you know me, you know I have an addiction to those bad boys. I honestly right now am thinking about getting up and getting the jar from the fridge… Focus, Rachael… Focus…

Ok so that was MONDAY. I know, right? Tuesday was a very exciting day, because my brother and his girlfriend got engaged in Maui! I am so incredibly happy for them, and really really wished that day that I could be home for just a minute to give them both a huge hug… But it will have to wait only a few short months when we’re in the States for Christmas!!

Wednesday I worked at Yogurt Heaven. If you live in the Oslo area, you need to check this place out. Delicious, FAT FREE frozen yogurt that you can make as fatty as you want with a ton of amazing toppings… Not to mention salads, coffee, and they’re starting smore’s soon… Yeah.

Now we come to Friday, where me and my girls Karin and Lindy got together for dinner, and then on to my husband’s (aka internet superstar Binärpilot) show. We wen’t to Lindy’s place in Grønland where I made homemade lasagna for them and we drank strawberry daquiris and Turborg. The girls seemed to love the lasagna, so I was very flattered. I absolutely love cooking, but I love it more when other people enjoy it :) Anywho, we were drinking and having a great time and before we knew it, it was time to head downtown to the show at Sub Scene. On the way we decided it was a great idea to start singing. So we did. I think we covered Grease, Britney Spears, and Sir Mix Alot, just to name a few. You can check out video evidence of this, if you dare.

After we frightened and disturbed as many people as we could on the streets, we got completely lost on Kirkegata (I blame iPhone GPS and alcohol) so we just started running up the street trying to listen for crazy electro music. Finally, we found the show, ran in and just started dancing, and had an awesome time. It was such a great experience, as it always is to see the hub’s play live, but that I got to share it with these really awesome people that I consider great friends now. I’m trying to get my hands on some pictures, because it would be just as entertaining to see footage of me dancing while intoxicated.

So that’s this week so far! Tonight I hope to see a friend who’s leaving for Russia for a month next week, and visit with some friends from TITAN. Also, I have made it a mission next week (or sooner) to record an introductory video for this blog so that people other than immediate family and friends will get to know me a little better, and I’m going to be sharing a lot of exciting things that are going to be happening at TITAN soon! Thanks for stopping by, see you soon! <3 Rach

By the way, here’s Karin’s YouTube page She makes awesome videos teaching Norwegian, and singing to Justin Bieber under the nick Crienexzy. Lindy frequently joins in! I need to get in on this action!

Hahaha, I know but I can't possibly admit that -I- was wrong, so I have to blame it on technology... I know a dude was snapping shots all night and I think Alexander will get them soon, and I will pass them on for sure! <3
